Description of Work

The Data Repair Auditor is responsible for processing complex sentence audits required by amended sentences, court orders, and appellate court decisions. Primary duties include analyzing and interpreting legal documents and calculating sentences in accordance with applicable court decisions, statutes, and policies and procedures.

The position requires utilizing OPUS (Offender Population Unified System) to document sentencing changes and to apply required changes to existing sentence calculations. This includes evaluation and analysis of existing records, sentence structure, applied credits, jail credits, and any applicable legal or statutory requirements. As a result, the position requires extensive experience using OPUS and working as a sentencing auditor.

To ensure accuracy, the Data Repair Auditor is required to develop and maintain strong working relationships with NCDAC divisions, judicial officials, and government agencies to resolve questions or discrepancies regarding sentences and to obtain appropriate clarification or documentation as warranted. The position requires frequent consultation with NCDAC’s legal professionals to ensure accurate and effective implementation of court decisions and legal mandates.

This Data Repair Auditor provides quality assurance of the auditing process by conducting second-tier reviews of new sentence audits and additional sentence audits. Duties also include providing feedback, training and peer support for junior auditors to support accuracy and consistency in the auditing process. The Data Repair team will work collaboratively to ensure the accuracy of complex sentence audits and to improve auditing processes as warranted. The auditor consequently must stay abreast of any changes to criminal laws, NCDAC policies and procedures, and court processes and implement those changes into the auditing process.

The position requires extensive knowledge of the North Carolina General Statutes, OPUS, correctional operations, and court processes. The Data Repair Auditor must have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a complex workload. Because of the complexity of the work, the auditor must be able to prioritize tasks, troubleshoot issues, and manage and resolve emergent and evolving issues as they arise. Exceptional attention to detail is required.

This position may be required to handle on-call duties on a rotating basis. This involves being available to respond to calls from facilities outside normal business hours while on call. The position also must perform other duties as assigned.
