Position Overview

Delta Lima is seeking a highly experienced data scientist to lead AI/ML development efforts in support of the U.S. Army OTJAG’s AI initiative. This individual will serve as the primary data science expert on the team, responsible for independently designing, building, and validating machine learning models that drive legal and operational insight.

This role requires a hands-on practitioner with deep technical skill, strong analytical instincts, and the ability to influence both strategy and implementation. You’ll be expected to move comfortably between data exploration, model development, and collaboration with engineers and developers to bring AI solutions into production.

**NOTE: This is an on-site role in Fort Belvoir, VA.**

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of machine learning models tailored to legal and operational mission needs
  • Conduct in-depth exploratory data analysis to uncover patterns, guide model design, and inform decision-making
  • Apply hypothesis-driven approaches to validate the performance, relevance, and fairness of AI/ML solutions
  • Collaborate with data engineer to ensure data quality, structure, and accessibility meet model requirements
  • Work closely with AI/ML engineers to operationalize models, including performance monitoring and optimization
  • Contribute to model integration efforts with application developers to support real-world use and feedback loops

Required Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of experience in data science and applied machine learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead end-to-end model development independently, from exploration to deployment
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and relevant ML libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow)
  • Strong foundation in statistical analysis, model evaluation techniques, and experimental design
  • Experience with both structured and unstructured data sources
  • Clear and confident communicator with a proven ability to collaborate across technical teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting DoD or federal government clients
  • Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP), particularly with legal or document-based data
  • Understanding of MLOps workflows, including model versioning, deployment, and monitoring

U.S. Citizenship Requirement

This position is restricted to U.S. citizens only in accordance with federal contract requirements. Applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship (such as U.S. passport, birth certificate, or Certificate of Naturalization) prior to employment. Non-citizens, including lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders), are not eligible for this role.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $150,000.00 per year
