Position:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Scientist II to join our team in support of our Department of Homeland Security (DHS) customer. This mid-level role requires the ability to independently apply advanced data science, statistical modeling, and operations research methodologies to solve complex operational challenges.

The successful candidate will design analytic approaches, develop and validate quantitative models, and translate mission requirements into data-driven solutions. The Data Scientist II will work closely with government stakeholders and cross-functional teams to support strategic decision-making through rigorous analysis and simulation.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize advanced data analysis techniques to extract insights and patterns from large and complex datasets.
  • Design, develop, test, and validate statistical, predictive, optimization, or simulation-based models.
  • Work with in-house simulation modeling software tools to support decision-making processes.
  • Translate operational and resource allocation questions into quantitative models and analytic frameworks.
  • Develop and test hypotheses using statistical and simulation-based approaches.
  • Evaluate alternative scenarios and provide data-driven recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Lead analytic tasks or workstreams independently and contribute to technical problem-solving discussions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for innovative, data-driven solutions.
  • Communicate findings, methodologies, assumptions, and recommendations through technical reports, dashboards, and executive-level presentations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in data science, simulation modeling, and analytics.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
  • Ability to work with spreadsheets and database software such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power BI.
  • Strong mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills.
  • Experience applying statistical modeling techniques such as regression, classification, clustering, or time-series analysis.
  • Experience cleaning, transforming, and engineering features from structured datasets.
  • Ability to validate models and interpret performance metrics.
  • Analytical and logical thinking skills.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working closely with clients and team members.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in simulation modeling (e.g., discrete event simulation, Monte Carlo methods, agent-based modeling).
  • Experience developing predictive or optimization models.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Experience supporting federal clients or working in DHS environments.
  • DHS Public Trust BI or higher-level clearance.

Additional Information:

  • Remote work. Primary location in Hendon, VA.
  • Will be required to travel to may be asked to go into the Reagan Building in DC 1–2 times per quarter
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in data science, analytics, operations research, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Travel within the United States is required.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
