Database Administration Technical Expert.Infrastructure & Operations

Job Purpose

Lead the database team (sub-team members & functions) and organize the tasks among the team members, control the workflow and plan for the coming improvements to assure highest level of data integrity, data protection and platform optimization. Lead the team to utilize the cutting-edge technologies and best practices to achieve database and engineered systems high availability and performance to support the business growth and to improve time to market. Assure of applying the best backup and recovery strategy that supports the best data recovery time, facilitate the interaction between the database team and both the internal and external customers to assure finishing the requested tasks/actions on time, with the best quality and satisfaction level.

Report To Position Name

Leadership / People Management Lead centre of excellence database and engineered systems teams providing support to IT and Technology to meet strategic and tactical needs. Lead the 24x7 teams on production incidents for engagement, restoration of service, root cause analysis, improvement and corrective items post incidents to full resolution. Manage to accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results, coaching, counselling, and disciplining employees and developing personal growth opportunities. Manage to improve team professional, technical knowledge and skills Coach direct reports and team members to work on assessment and improvement plans for different streams. Actively create an environment that encourages personal ownership, innovation, teamwork and accountability at all levels & help individuals recognize and shape their own needs and potential. Cascade company strategy and provide team with a clear direction to work and relate to the organizations objectives Ensure clear understanding and compliance of team members to compliance company policies and code of conduct. Work on recruiting employees with high competencies and ensure continuity plan for all subsections. Database Implementation Prepare HLD and LLD & Documentation with vendors. Coordination with Implementation team & vendors as per the design document. Participate in vendor's/proposals evaluation for any new project.  Interface with vendors in case on design or implementation issues. Implement the critical database upgrades, migrations and the major patch sets installation to assure of using the latest available technologies and avoiding the known bugs. Install and configure any new product or feature related to the database that needs special high technical capabilities. Work closely with other team members in evaluate the new proposed solutions, technologies, and products to assure the best fitting technically. Ensure the efficient and reliable implementation of the database systems and maintain their availability and reliability. Reporting, Documentation & SLAs Develop weekly technical reports showing the work progress & status of assigned tasks/projects. Follow up reviewing and publishing the services documentations to assure business continuity and the quality of services. Maintain an up to date systems' documentation (Etisalat IT databases, databases related technologies, and etc.) for all database systems on hand. Enhance implementations SLAs and assure customer satisfaction. Responsible to receive full handover documentation and low level design document from the planning team before accepting new projects to go production. Engineered System Technology, Technical Skills • Lead the team for understanding of Oracle Architecture and Concepts, and good understanding of architecture and features. • Manage the Exadata storage servers upgrades and patching with the all stakeholders and vendor. • Contribute to tune the environment in case of performance issues. • Coordinate with Oracle Vendor support for Hardware replacements. • Manage the Resource planning and user management. Operational Excellence Manage to provide best in class data architecture and database management for all Etisat Misr (production, development and testing) platforms including large scale and multi-terabyte environments deigned for telecom industry solutions. Manage to provide superior database services including high availability and performance and for all mission critical systems and high importance applications. Manage database management area that includes different technologies and tools for data online replication, data migration, data transformation and open sources technologies. Manage to gather, review, forecast and budget database and engineered systems metrics to determine scaling needs. Manage database and engineered systems products lifecycle opportunity identification, requirements gathering, design, development, execution and operations. Understand business needs and ongoing IT and Technology requirements including integration among different systems and application, and then meet them with database solutions. Manage to synthesize diverse requirements and communicate them to different audiences (both technical and non-technical). Manage to handle database backup procedures for all environments to provide max data protection. Develop and evolve competent processes and agile approaches to support business growth. Vendor Management Manage the vendor relationships and negotiate effectively with them to ensure a win-win situation and Encourage and support the planning for expansions and acquiring new technologies to serve Etisalat business requirements. Collaborate with technology partners to design and deliver cost effective, scalable and reliable database and engineered solutions to serve wide range of systems and applications and accordingly to serve Etisalat Misr business growth. New Open Sources Technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL) Responsibility for Supporting IT New Technology Trends and Cost Initiatives • Manage the team to identify and evaluate the adoption of open source technologies to support the IT of introducing new services to support the technology trends with more flexibility and less cost. • Responsible for the configuration, and maintenance of various technologies managed by the Information Technology department. • Ensure the efficient and reliable implementation of the database systems and maintain their availability and reliability. • Develop and maintain procedures and documentation for open source technologies. • Contribute to the setting of standards for definition, security, and integrity of open source technologies objects and ensures conformance to these standards. • Manages open source technologies configuration including installing and upgrading software and maintaining relevant documentation. • Monitor open source technologies activity and resource usage. • Optimize open source technologies performance and plans for forecast resource needs. New Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) and Middleware Administration for Supporting (EBS) Modernization, New Responsibility • Manage the team to build and administrate the new modern Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) platform to support Enterprise Business Suite (EBS) modernization. • Implement software and security architecture based on technical requirements • Monitor server and system performance • Maintain detailed documentation about system configurations and settings • Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies New APEX Application Administration Responsibility for Supporting IT Digital Operations and Account Management Initiatives • Manage the team to Install, configure and manage a secure, production-quality APEX environment that supports internal AND public-facing internet applications (digital applications and account management applications). • Manage and contribute to install and configure APEX, ORDS, Tomcat, and Apache; create, backup, and restore workspaces and applications; enable secure connections to external services • Ensure to have certificate and enforce use of https when connecting to a virtual host. • Manage the team to setup of apex environment. • Secure the environments and USER access. • Responsible for Optimizing all Security models. • Responsible for Patching /Performance / CRs. New Oracle Backup Appliances Technology Responsibility for Supporting IT High Availability and Data Protection Solutions. • Manage backup plans and recovery procedures. • Ensure data integrity and ensure compliance to all disaster recovery plans. • Manage monitoring, administration, and maintenance of backup environment including Backup servers, backup storage, network configuration and clients. • Manage configuration of backup solution on requested servers. • Evaluate backup standard and test restores of requested files, folders, databases, and virtual machines. • Manage to report the backup/restore KPIs to top management • Create and update documentation; actively build teams knowledge base • Compliance with internal regulations, procedures, law, and managers orders, including other internal regulations in the company, including company's intellectual property protection. Technical Responsibilities Administer the implementation of database systems through all IT infrastructure and platforms. Ensure efficient maintenance and ensure compliance to all disaster recovery plans. Plan to assure highest level of databases availability and to maintain, the data integrity, security and best database performance. Plan and develop the backup strategies assuring the best data recovery time in case of emergency with solid backup process and documentations to avoid any data loss and recover in the best possible time slot. Administrating Oracle Database Server Backup and Recovery using the RMAN Continuous revisiting and enhancing the different backup and recovery strategies assuring the best data recovery time in place. To be responsible for the configuration, and maintenance of various technologies managed by the Information Technology department. Enhance implementations SLAs and assure customer satisfaction. Enhance the Database Performance to assure using the server resources in the most effective and efficient way. Feedback and involve planning team for repeated faulty device for planning future actions and needed revamp design planes. Responsible on conducting a regular IT databases preventive maintenance & support services to all systems on hand. Responsible on maintaining all IT databases under support contracts. Responsible for the data recovery in case of emergency Enhance the Database Performance to assure using the server resources in the most effective and efficient way. Monitor and assure the database availability to extremely minimize the unplanned down time.

QUALIFICATIONS_ESSENTIAL

 Bachelor’s Degree in related field is required.  Excellent interpersonal skills (Negotiation, communications, etc.)  Excellent vendor management.  Team work spirit  Fast learner with the ability to understand diverse technologies.  Knowledge and understanding of the OEM and SQL/PLSQL  Good knowledge in UNIX/Linux OS

EXPERIENCE_ESSENTIAL

 At least 10 years of IT planning, implementation and operation experience  At least 8 years' experience in Database design, implementation, configuration and troubleshooting.  Proven track record in managing challenging projects in a Complex IT environment.  Experience in Oracle High Availability solutions specially Oracle RAC and Oracle Data Guard.  Experience in managing Backup and Recovery using the RMAN with very good knowledge of managing the backup and recovery policies.  Experience in Oracle Database installations, migrations and patch sets updates  Oracle Database Performance and tuning experience in DB tuning and/or SQL tuning  Experience in managing engineered systems and solutions.  5+ years working in Telecom industry
