The location of this position will be in the following county:
Kanawha.

Requirements for this position include but are not limited to:
  • A valid driver’s license OR State issued ID and dependable transportation are required.
  • IF APPLICABLE: Travel to various State Agencies to perform work and maintain accurate mileage records.
  • Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.

Job Duties:
  • Maintenance - Monitor system health, track performance metrics, and configure alerts for critical events. Respond promptly to database-related incidents, investigate root causes, and implement preventive measures.

  • Optimization - Conduct performance tuning and optimization. Analyze complex queries and execution plans to maintain indices for optimal performance.

  • Recovery - Implement established backup and disaster recovery strategies. Execute migration plans with minimal downtime and validate data integrity afterward.

  • Automation - Develop and maintain T-SQL and PowerShell scripts to automate routine tasks such as backups, index maintenance, and database monitoring.

  • Integration & Analytics - Use tools like SQL Server Integration Services, Azure Data Factories, KingswaySoft, and Biztalk to migrate and transform data through complex ETL. Provide analytics on system health and growth capacity, and use tools like SSRS, Power BI, and Google Looker Studio for internal and customer reporting.

  • Development - Develop and ensure the proper functioning of databases, data-driven applications, and reports. This includes building database schemas, tables, procedures, and permission sets. The role also involves aiding in development of complex business applications using ASP.NET, Adobe ColdFusion, or Power Platform on a project team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:
Training: Successful completion of an Associate Degree in computer science or related field from an accredited college, university or business school.

Substitution: Two years of experience as a Database Administrator for Universal DB2, ORACLE, INFORMIX, SQL Server, SYBASE or any other multi-user database management system on mainframe, mini, or client/server platforms may substitute for the required training.

Experience: Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in database administration and management work, with Universal DB2, ORACLE, INFORMIX, SQL Server, SYBASE or any other multi-user database management on mainframe, mini, or client/server platforms OR four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in programming and analysis work using any of a variety of programming languages, including two years of SQL experience and a variety of data storage techniques.
Substitution: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or related field may be substituted for the required training and the two years of experience.
