WHO WE ARE:
Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) connects people with careers across the state. While we are based in Austin at 101 East 15th Street, we have offices statewide. We're a Family Friendly Certified Workplace with great work-life balance, competitive salaries, extensive opportunities for training and development, and fantastic benefits. This is an in-person position based in Austin, Texas, with work performed on-site at 101 E. 15th Street. Second-round interviews will be conducted in person.
TWC is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those with H1B visas or those currently on student or postgraduate visas. You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas.
WHO YOU ARE:
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) with a strong focus on Application DBA responsibilities. This position is in the Labor Market Department (LMI) of the TWC’s Division of Information Innovation and Insight (I|3). The DBA will work closely with our programming staff and SQL-proficient “power users” and report directly to the LMI IT Manager. Unlike an infrastructure DBA responsible for backups, etc., this role is deeply aligned with SQL users and applications, focusing on database design, query optimization, and data integration to support evolving LMI applications.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Database Administrator IV perform advanced (senior-level) database administration work. Work under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. You will coordinate and/or perform work on database projects that are highly complex in nature and large in scale; design and implement data models; develop and maintain ETL processes; and provide technical guidance to the team to ensure efficient data access and integrity. The primary project assigned will involve inventing a database design with yet-to-be-finalized requirements for an interactive workflow application, so you would be expected to suggest ideas and collaborate with SQL-savvy subject matter experts. A related, archival database has close to 2 billion rows of data and needs re-architecting to optimize loading and query performance.
