Database Senior Engineer

Job Purpose

The Database Senior Engineer supports advanced database architecture development and optimization while mentoring junior team members. This role involves developing database schemas, optimizing queries, troubleshooting issues, and providing expert support to ensure efficient and reliable database operations.

Job Description

1. Database Development: Develop and implement efficient database schemas and architectures to meet business and technical requirements.

2. Query Optimization & Troubleshooting: Optimize queries for better performance and troubleshoot database issues to ensure smooth operations.

3. Advanced Support: Provide advanced database support to internal teams and handle complex database problems that arise.

4. Mentorship: Mentor and provide guidance to junior database engineers, helping them grow in their roles and adhering to best practices.

5. Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to ensure database solutions are integrated effectively into business applications.

Policies, Processes & Procedures

6. Follow and implement all relevant department policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

Day-to-day Operations

7. Follow the day-to-day operations related to own jobs in the department and preparing requested reports to ensure continuity of work. Ensure being innovative, initiative and recommend new approaches related to own jobs.

Compliance

8. Comply with all relevant CBE regulations, banking laws, AML regulations and internal AAIB policies and code of conduct in order to maintain AAIB’s sound legal position and mitigate any potential risks.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience: For Senior Engineer 5 to 7 years of experience in database engineering with a focus on optimization, schema design, and troubleshooting.
• Experience: For Engineer 3 to 5 years of experience in database engineering with a focus on optimization, schema design, and troubleshooting.
• Certifications: (Relevant certifications in database technologies or management are a plus).
• Technical Skills: Expertise in database schema development, query optimization, and advanced troubleshooting techniques. Strong understanding of database performance tuning.
• Soft Skills: Strong mentoring abilities, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams.
