Main Purpose: The Database Professional will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing scalable, high-performance database architectures supporting large-scale genomic data platforms. This role ensures data availability, performance, and integrity across clinical, research, and analytical workloads.
Area of Responsibility: Design, implement, and maintain large-scale genomic databases containing tens of millions to billions of records.
Manage and operate relational and analytical databases, including:
MySQL
PostgreSQL
Amazon Redshift
Google BigQuery
Define and maintain optimized database schemas for:
Genomic variants
Annotations
Samples and cohorts
Phenotypes and clinical metadata
Supporting reference and audit data
Implement partitioning, indexing, and query optimization strategies for:
Gene-based queries
Variant-based queries
Genomic coordinate-based queries
Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of database systems.
Monitor database health, performance metrics, and storage utilization.
Implement backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery strategies.
Ensure data integrity, consistency, and secure access to sensitive genomic data.
Collaborate with bioinformatics, engineering, and analytics teams to support data pipelines and downstream use cases.
