Job Summary:
The Junior / L1 Database Support Engineer is the first point of contact for end-users and application teams requiring database-related support. The role involves monitoring, logging, and resolving basic database incidents, service requests, and queries, ensuring timely resolution or escalation as per defined processes. This position requires strong analytical skills, foundational knowledge of databases, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, 24/7 support environment.
Job description: -
- Actively monitor database dashboards and alerts using tools such as MySQL Enterprise Monitor, Grafana, Prometheus, and ELK.
- Detect and log anomalies, slow queries, replication lag, or storage issues in the incident management system.
- Perform initial triage and basic troubleshooting of database connectivity, query performance, and service availability issues as per SOPs.
- Escalate unresolved or critical incidents to L2/L3 Database Administrators within SLA timelines.
- Maintain accurate incident logs, updates, and resolution notes.
- Run predefined health-check scripts to validate database performance, replication, and backup status.
- Restart database services or scheduled jobs as instructed in SOPs.
- Assist in routine checks (backups, replication, scheduled jobs, storage capacity, and user access reviews).
- Verify successful execution of scheduled jobs (ETL, backup, indexing, cleanup tasks) and escalate failures.
- Monitor database security alerts (failed login attempts, unusual access patterns) and escalate to SOC or DBA teams.
- Follow database incident and security playbooks for common issues.
- Work closely with Application, DevOps, and Security teams to ensure smooth escalation and knowledge transfer.
- Update SOPs, knowledge base articles, and shift handover logs regularly.
- Work in rotational shifts to provide 24/7 support coverage.
Job Specification and Technical Requirements: -
- Diploma or Bachelor’s in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
- 2–4 years in IT monitoring, service desk, or NOC/SOC environment.
- Certification can be plus point- ITIL Foundation, CompTIA Network+, or relevant DevOps/cloud basics (AWS, Azure).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios, Zabbix, CloudWatch, or SIEM tools).
- Basic understanding of Linux and Windows server administration.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals (IP, DNS, firewalls, routing).
- Awareness of DevOps and cloud environments (CI/CD basics, containers is a plus).
- Basic cybersecurity awareness (malware, phishing, access control).
- Strong attention to detail in monitoring dashboards and logs.
- Ability to follow SOPs and escalate appropriately
- Good communication skills for incident reporting and coordination.
- Willingness to work in 24/7 rotational shifts.
- Eagerness to learn and grow towards L2/L3 SME roles.
