The Phoenix Theatre Company, a LOA LORT D Theatre and Arizona’s largest Professional Regional Theatre, seeks a Full Time Day Porter + Maintenance Technician.

Located in the heart of the Central Arts District close to downtown Phoenix, our beautiful 14 acre campus includes three theaters, a restaurant and bar, rehearsal halls, administrative offices, costume, scenic, prop, lighting and paint shops, all on one site. We produce a wide range of theatre, from full scale musicals to comedies, dramas and original new work. Our community service programs have gained national attention. With a $17+ million annual operating budget, and celebrating our 105th Season, we offer 10-12 diverse productions every season as well as a growing Festival of New American Theatre. This is a full-time, year-round position.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician/Day Porter plays a vital role in ensuring our facilities are safe, well-maintained, and welcoming for all who use them. This dual-function position splits responsibilities evenly between performing routine maintenance and light repairs on building systems—such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical—and providing daily cleaning and upkeep of common areas. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and proactive, with a strong commitment to customer service. This role is essential to creating a clean, functional, and comfortable environment for our staff, visitors, and guests while addressing maintenance needs quickly and effectively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintenance Technician (50%):

  • Perform routine maintenance and light duty repairs on building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential issues.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs.
  • Assist with the installation and setup of equipment and fixtures.

Day Porter (50%):

  • Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of common areas, including lobbies, restrooms, and break rooms.
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and trash removal.
  • Restock supplies in restrooms and other areas as needed.
  • Monitor and report any maintenance or safety issues observed during daily rounds.
  • Provide excellent customer service to building occupants and visitors.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in maintenance and/or janitorial roles.
  • Basic knowledge of building systems and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time.
  • Comfortable working in various environmental conditions.

Physical Environment

  • The majority of work is done indoors.
  • General Theatre and lobby areas as well as business offices.
  • Two apartment complexes.
  • Offsite warehouse.
  • Must be able to work on a schedule that may include weekends.
