GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

Under supervision of the Operations Manager, supports efficient daily operations in assigned work area by coordinating workflow, maintaining accurate records, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and assisting with reporting and scheduling. The DC Clerk serves as a communication link between leadership, associates, and vendors to help ensure smooth product flow and accurate system transactions. The role may also support general warehouse functions throughout the distribution center such as shipping, receiving, stocking, order fulfillment, packing, sorting, labeling, or quality assurance. Work is performed in accordance with company policies and guidelines, using tools such as RF scanners, step ladders, conveyor systems, and sortation walls.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance

  • Interfaces with computer systems to manage workflow
  • Coordinates workflow and ensures work availability for associates
  • Balances headcount based on volume, requesting people to flex into other departments when necessary
  • Reports issues to the Operations Manager as necessary
  • Uses effective problem solving and sound judgment to ensure steady workflow is maintained for workforce
  • Serves as a back-up clerk to other areas of the business or in current department to another clerk as needed
  • Provides leadership coverage during the absence of Operations Managers, maintaining productivity, service levels, and compliance with operational standards
  • Maintains confidentiality while meeting business demands
  • Checks accuracy and output of associates on an ongoing basis
  • Maintains a clean, organized work area
  • Accurately picks and packs orders using established work practices
  • Restocks picking bins with product brought from reserve storage based on warehouse management system reporting
  • Accurately sorts, counts, and receives all merchandise
  • Moves product to and from pallet racks with powered material handling equipment such as pallet jacks
  • Works with conveyors to accurately build pallets of cartons to ship out
  • Loads or unloads trucks, sorting and labeling product as needed
  • Organizes warehouse storage space effectively
  • Works in a clean and orderly manner at all times
  • Uses a RF scanner/hand scanner to direct work (pick, pack, receive, move)
  • Use of sortation walls and conveyor systems to complete daily tasks
  • Meets safety, productivity, and quality standards
  • Demonstrates flexibility in daily task assignments and performs other general warehouse tasks, as assigned

  • Follows all safety guidelines and standards to ensure a safe working environment, including hazard recognition, housekeeping, accident and near miss reporting, proper use of all safety equipment and procedures, and adherence to all safety rules
  • Executes other operational tasks as directed
  • Adheres to established attendance, quality, and production standards
  • Uses basic interpersonal skills in accomplishing tasks
  • Follows instructions quickly, safely and accurately
  • Effectively communicates, understands basic written and oral instructions, reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals, in English

JOB QUALIFICATIONS


Education

  • High school diploma or GED; 1 year or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience


Experience

  • Previous relevant experience is preferred


Skills

  • Must be self-motivated and take initiative
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Basic math skills including the ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Basic computer skills, including working knowledge of Excel
  • Must be reliable and dependable
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to evaluate situations and make informed decisions
  • Strong professional communication skills


SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Work a flexible schedule as needed to include mandatory overtime during the week and/or weekend as well as holidays
  • May be subject to vacation blackout period
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • English language proficient


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Constant exposure to loud noises
  • Occasionally works on elevated platforms
  • Exposure to variable temperatures
  • Exposure to dusty environment
  • May be exposed to strong scents related to cosmetic or fragrance
  • May be required to work in narrow aisles or trailers
  • Must wear cut gloves when box cutters are used
