Cloud Ops Engineer — Azure VM (Linux) Role Summary Seeking a hands-on Cloud Operations engineer focused on Azure Linux virtual machines. Responsible for day-to-day operation, automation, reliability, security and cost control of Linux workloads running on Azure. Works closely with Dev, SRE and Security teams to deliver stable, scalable environments. Key Responsibilities Deploy, configure and manage Azure Linux VMs, VM Scale Sets and associated resources Maintain OS lifecycle: patching, updates, package management and configuration drift prevention Monitor health and performance using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics and alerting; investigate incidents and implement remediation Implement backups, disaster recovery and snapshot strategies Automate provisioning and management using ARM templates, Azure CLI, PowerShell, Terraform and Ansible Harden systems to security and compliance standards; apply vulnerability fixes and runbooks Optimize compute costs and right-size workloads Create and maintain runbooks, run-level documentation and operational playbooks Participate in on-call rotation for incident response and post-incident reviews Required Skills & Experience Strong Linux administration (RHEL/CentOS, Ubuntu) Practical experience with Azure compute services, VMSS, Managed Disks, NSGs and VNet basics Scripting in Bash and familiarity with Python or PowerShell Experience with automation tools: ARM/Terraform and CM tools like Ansible Familiar with monitoring, logging and alerting (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics) Understanding of backups, snapshots and recovery processes Good troubleshooting, communication and collaboration skills Qualifications & Certifications Degree in CS or related field or equivalent experience 2–5 years in cloud/Linux operations Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or equivalent preferred Nice to Have Container experience (AKS/Docker), CI/CD exposure, security certifications
