We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Evaluator to conduct comprehensive evaluations for students with hearing impairments. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of auditory and communication development, experience in special education assessments, and the ability to collaborate effectively with IEP teams to ensure accurate eligibility determination and service recommendations.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to determine eligibility and educational needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Administer, score, and interpret assessments related to communication, auditory functioning, and educational performance.
  • Participate in ARD/IEP meetings to present findings and provide recommendations for appropriate services, accommodations, and instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, including speech-language pathologists, educational diagnosticians, and special education staff.
  • Provide input in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring goals and supports align with students’ needs.
  • Offer consultation and guidance to school staff and parents regarding instructional strategies, assistive technology, and classroom accommodations.
  • Maintain accurate evaluation documentation, reports, and timelines in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Stay current with best practices, evaluation tools, and legal requirements related to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Texas Special Education certification with authorization for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH).
  • Demonstrated expertise in evaluating students with hearing impairments and interpreting assessment data.
  • Strong understanding of communication modes (e.g., auditory/oral, total communication, sign language) and their impact on learning.
  • Proficiency in sign language and ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and organization.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and maintain professionalism in sensitive situations.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience conducting DHH evaluations in educational settings.
  • Familiarity with Texas state eligibility criteria and ARD/IEP processes.
  • Knowledge of assistive hearing technology and instructional supports for students with hearing loss.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $40.00 per hour
