Job Summary
The Decorator Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining can decorating machinery to ensure high-quality printing on metal cans, adhering to production schedules and quality standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor high-speed can decorating equipment, including feeders, coaters, and ovens, ensuring optimal performance and product quality.
- Perform routine setup, adjustments, and changeovers of machinery according to production specifications and job orders.
- Conduct in-process quality checks, including color matching, print registration, and defect identification, and make necessary adjustments to maintain standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve minor mechanical and operational issues with decorating equipment to minimize downtime.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks on decorating machinery as scheduled or required.
- Load and unload raw materials (ink, coatings, cans) and finished products from the decorator.
- Maintain accurate production records, including downtime, waste, and output data.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance personnel, and other team members regarding production issues or quality concerns.
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience operating machinery in a manufacturing environment, preferably in printing or can manufacturing.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic troubleshooting and adjustments.
- Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for color and print quality.
- Ability to read and interpret production specifications and job orders.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and machine interface.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and perform repetitive tasks.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform duties in a manufacturing setting (which may include exposure to noise, heat, and chemicals).
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, as required.
