Hicks Nurseries, the premier retail and wholesale garden center on Long Island, is looking for Drivers to join our team for our busy Spring season!

Objective: Make all scheduled deliveries in a safe, timely, efficient, and courteous manner following documented processes and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Load the appropriate vehicle with goods and unload them at each delivery location.
• Ensure all related paperwork is completed and appropriately distributed.
• Always follow safety guidelines and processes.
• Ensure that any vehicle you use is in proper, safe working order.
• Ensure that bending, lifting, climbing in/out of vehicles, etc., is done safely.
• Use all vehicles and equipment in a safe manner in compliance with traffic and other laws.
• Load vehicle(s) for the following days’ deliveries as required, following documented processes and procedures.
• Route deliveries as required, following documented processes and procedures.
• Contact customers regarding their estimated delivery time. o Notify company managers of following day’s delivery schedule.
• Ensure that any vehicle you use is left clean ready for the next day’s activities.
• Ensure there is a sufficiently full tank of gas; follow documented processes and procedures for billing.
• Sweep truck(s) after deliveries.
• Provide customer service.
• Respect customer’s homes.
• While at a customer’s home, always be courteous and refer customers to appropriate salespeople as needed.
• Acknowledge customers in the store.
• Assist customers in the store by answering questions, directing them, and/or finding appropriate sales help.

Position Requirements:

• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks.
• Computer literate, including Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, in person and on the telephone.

Ability to operate company vehicles, including trucks and forklifts, safely and effectively

• Able to sit and drive a vehicle for a full shift most days.
• Frequent physical activity required, including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, squeezing, and grasping.
• Must be able to consistently lift 25-40 lbs. independently.
• Must be able to push/pull wheeled carts of 400 lbs. consistently.
• Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment such as box trucks, flatbed trucks, forklifts, and 4-wheel electric cart stock chasers.

Additionally, we are Long Island’s largest Christmas store selling fresh trees, wreaths, roping, and centerpieces; artificial trees and greens; indoor and outdoor lights and lawn décor; ornaments and collectibles of all types; and much more!
