Duties
- Prepare treatment areas and sterilize dental instruments in accordance with aseptic technique and infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists chairside during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Take and develop dental X-rays and medical imaging, ensuring proper technique and patient safety.
- Manage patient records and documentation using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic, maintaining HIPAA compliance at all times.
- Collect vital signs and medical history information to support comprehensive patient care.
- Provide excellent dental receptionist support by scheduling appointments, confirming patient information, and managing patient flow efficiently.
- Perform dental terminology and anatomy knowledge to accurately assist with procedures and explain treatments to patients.
- Operate advanced dental technology including 3D scanners and other medical imaging tools.
- Support four-handed dentistry by working seamlessly with the dental team to enhance efficiency and patient comfort.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sterile environment, adhering strictly to infection control standards.
- Assist with medical documentation and coding for insurance and billing purposes, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Educate patients on oral health practices and post-treatment care, fostering a positive and informative experience.
- Support pediatric dentistry procedures, ensuring a gentle and engaging approach for young patients.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant or in a similar dental clinic setting, with a strong understanding of dental assisting procedures.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic, and familiarity with medical records management.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and infection control protocols.
- Ability to perform dental X-rays and operate dental imaging equipment safely.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology.
- Experience with chairside assisting, including four-handed dentistry and aseptic technique.
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry and working with children is a plus.
- Ability to take vital signs and support medical documentation and coding tasks.
- Excellent communication skills, with a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Certification in CPR and radiography as required by state law.
