Duties

  • Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly using aseptic techniques.
  • Assist dentists during various procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry with chairside support.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray imaging) while adhering to infection control protocols and HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.
  • Manage patient records electronically using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Collect vital signs and medical history information to support comprehensive patient assessments.
  • Educate patients on oral health practices, post-treatment care, and dental terminology to promote informed decision-making.
  • Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist, verifying insurance information, and maintaining medical documentation in Epic or similar systems.

Skills

  • Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry and chairside support.
  • Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control standards, and aseptic techniques.
  • Experience with dental imaging equipment including 3D scanners and general X-ray procedures.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation accurately.
  • Ability to perform vital signs assessments and assist with pediatric dentistry procedures confidently.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements for safeguarding patient information and medical coding standards.
