Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and sterilized equipment following infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists chairside during a variety of procedures including restorations, extractions, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray) ensuring proper technique and patient safety in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix Ascend, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Perform vital signs assessments and medical imaging to support comprehensive patient evaluations.
- Provide excellent customer service as a dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, answering queries, and managing patient flow smoothly.
- Maintain aseptic techniques and adhere to infection control standards to ensure a sterile environment for all clinical activities.
- Assist with the use of advanced technology such as 3D scanners for prosthodontic or implant procedures.
- Support the dental team with administrative tasks related to medical documentation, coding, and record keeping in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Educate patients on oral health practices tailored to pediatric patients or those requiring specialized care in endodontics or prosthodontics.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant or in a similar dental clinic setting with knowledge of general dentistry procedures.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix Ascend; experience with Epic is a plus.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
- Ability to operate dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging tools safely and effectively.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations for handling medical records and patient confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics.
- Certification in dental assisting preferred; additional training in pediatric dentistry such a nitrous oxdide is advantageous.
