Reports to Dental Office Supervisor
Background: Cahaba Medical Care Foundation is a community health center organization providing medical, pharmacy, dental, and behavioral health services to diverse underserved communities in Jefferson, Bibb, Perry, and Chilton counties. Position Summary:
The Dental Assistant supports our dental team and enhances the patient experience. This role includes traditional chairside duties as well as assisting with treatment discussions, referrals, and select administrative responsibilities to ensure smooth office operations.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Assist the dentist and hygienists chairside with clinical procedures.
Help patients understand treatment plans, payment options, and referrals when needed.
Occasionally support front desk operations, including:
Answering phones and greeting patients.
Verifying insurance eligibility and benefits.
Assisting with pre-authorizations for partials, dentures, crowns, and SRP.
Organize and prioritize tasks to accomplish goals efficiently.
Use Dentrix software proficiently.
Interact effectively and promote exceptional service to patients, families, physicians, fellow employees, and volunteers, demonstrating compassion, respect, and dignity.
Work collaboratively as a team player while maintaining personal integrity and a positive, credible image.
Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
Maintain attention to detail, organization, and timeliness in a fast-paced environment.
Stay up-to-date on regulations, methods, trends, and equipment.
Demonstrate a desire to expand knowledge from both a clinical and administrative perspective, including management and leadership skills.
Maintain OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Category 1 precautions.
Qualifications:
Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
Ability to sit for approximately 90% of the time.
Ability to stoop, bend, reach, grab with arms and hands, and use manual dexterity.
Effective proofreading and document accuracy skills.
Ability to use a keyboard and view a computer monitor for data entry.
OSHA personal exposure risk category 1 (possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens).
Airborne risk category 1 (possible exposure to patients capable of transmitting M. tuberculosis).
Valid Driver’s License.
US citizen or permanent immigration status.
