Responsibilities
Assist dentists during a wide range of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are ready for patient care. Take and develop dental X-rays, ensuring adherence to infection control protocols and safety standards. Manage patient records accurately using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, including updating medical documentation and records. Provide chairside assistance with four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency during procedures. Educate patients on oral health care practices, post-treatment instructions, and answer their questions with clarity and professionalism. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment following aseptic techniques and infection control guidelines in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and assisting the dental receptionist when needed.
Requirements
Previous experience working in a dental clinic environment is highly preferred, especially with medical terminology, dental terminology, and medical coding. Proficiency with EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix is essential for managing patient records efficiently. Knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic technique, anatomy knowledge, and sterilization procedures is required to ensure patient safety. Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners while maintaining safety standards. Strong understanding of pediatric dentistry principles and experience working with children is a plus. Familiarity with medical documentation standards such as Epic or other electronic health record platforms is advantageous. Excellent communication skills combined with a positive attitude to support patients of all ages in a fast-paced environment. Certification in radiography or X-ray technology for dental assistants is preferred but not mandatory; training can be provided for the right candidate.
