Dental Assistant

Duties

  • Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is ready for procedures.
  • Assist dentists during various treatments such as cleanings, restorations, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry procedures.
  • Take and develop dental X-rays, including intraoral images and 3D scans, ensuring high-quality medical imaging for accurate diagnosis.
  • Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix while maintaining HIPAA compliance to protect patient privacy.
  • Provide chairside assistance by handing instruments, suctioning, and monitoring vital signs during procedures to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Educate patients on post-treatment care, dental terminology, and oral hygiene practices to promote ongoing health.
  • Support infection control protocols by practicing aseptic techniques and adhering to strict sterilization procedures in accordance with industry standards.

Skills

  • Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for efficient documentation and medical coding.
  • Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
  • Experience with dental assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry and chairside assisting.
  • Ability to operate dental equipment like X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and other medical imaging tools accurately.
  • Familiarity with infection control standards and aseptic techniques to ensure a safe clinical environment.
  • Excellent communication skills as a dental receptionist when coordinating appointments or explaining procedures to patients.
