Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared and sterilized according to infection control protocols.
- Operate dental imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners to capture accurate diagnostic images while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and aseptic techniques.
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft to ensure accurate medical documentation, dental coding, and record keeping.
- Take vital signs and assess patient comfort levels before procedures, providing reassurance and explaining treatment steps clearly using dental terminology accessible to patients of all ages.
- Support front desk operations by performing dental receptionist duties such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and managing medical records efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment by following infection control standards and ensuring all dental tools are sanitized properly.
- Assist with medical documentation related to dental procedures and coordinate with other healthcare providers when necessary for comprehensive patient care.
Experience
- Previous experience working in a dental setting is highly preferred, especially with general dentistry or specialty areas like prosthodontics or cosmetic dentistry.
- Familiarity with dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, aseptic technique, anatomy knowledge, and infection control practices is essential.
- Proficiency in using EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft for managing dental records and documentation is required; experience with Epic or similar platforms is a plus.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, dental imaging procedures (including X-ray), and dental coding enhances your ability to deliver comprehensive patient care.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations ensures confidentiality and compliance in handling sensitive patient information.
- Certification in radiography (X-ray) is necessary; additional certifications in pediatric dentistry or advanced imaging are advantageous.
