Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all dental supplies are ready for procedures
- Assist dentists during various treatments including restorations, extractions, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray images) while following strict infection control and aseptic techniques
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Perform vital signs assessments and medical documentation to support comprehensive patient care
- Operate advanced dental technology including 3D scanners and medical imaging devices to aid diagnosis and treatment planning
- Support front desk operations by acting as a dental receptionist when needed, scheduling appointments, and managing patient inquiries
Skills
- Proficiency with dental software such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Open Dental, or Epic for medical documentation and records management
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques
- Experience with chairside assisting in general dentistry and specialized fields like prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry
- Ability to take high-quality X-ray images while maintaining patient safety standards
- Familiarity with medical coding for accurate billing and insurance processing
- Excellent communication skills to explain procedures clearly to patients of all ages, especially pediatrics
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security
