WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Montgomery County Public Health Dental Program provides essential oral health services to residents, focusing on improving dental health and preventing oral diseases. The program provides dental services, oral education, and outreach initiatives through collaborations with community partners targeting low-income and underserved populations. We aim to enhance community health strategies and ensure access to dental care, ultimately fostering better overall health outcomes for the county residents in need.

What You'll Be Doing

Dental Assistants play an important role in our organization by providing clinical assistance to dental providers and providing primary dental care. Dental Assistants are responsible for providing patient education to clients; passing instruments and medications to medical professionals; keeping treatment areas clear; assisting during procedures; charting and documenting medical history and medications; and providing education to clients regarding procedures and post-procedure instructions. Core duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Place, expose, and process intraoral radiographs.
  • Monitor and implement effective infection control techniques and hazardous materials guidelines.
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain instruments and equipment.
  • Provide technical support to the dental team in entering clinic data into electronic dental records and clinic statistics forms.
  • Maintain dental supplies in the clinic by keeping inventory and ordering supplies as necessary.
  • Assist in scheduling appointments, maintain client records, and coordinate dental services.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: One (1) year of experience as a Dental Assistant with clinical practice in dental patient care.
Education: Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.
Equivalency: Proof of completion of a Dental Assistant Program will be accepted in lieu of the experience requirement

CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Certification in Radiation Technology to include an approved course of at least two (2) hours of infection control with OSHA protocol.
  • Possession and maintenance of an American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) or American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuers at the time of hire.
  • Candidates will be required to provide a registration card upon application, verifying they are on the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners’ roster as a Dental Assistant, and continuation in the classification requires maintenance of this registration.
Note: There will be no substitutions for this section.

LICENSE: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

Preferred Criteria:

The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevance of training, and experience in the following areas:

  • Experience working in a public health dental setting
  • Experience working in a dental setting with all age groups (children and adults)
  • Experience and ability to assist with a variety of dental procedures (basic restorative, root canals, extractions)
  • Basic computer skills/experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Electronic Medical Record systems
  • Multilingual language skills
