Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during a variety of procedures, including chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize patient comfort and workflow
- Take and develop dental X-rays, ensuring proper technique and safety protocols are followed in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and supplies while maintaining aseptic techniques and infection control standards
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Epic, ensuring accuracy in medical documentation and coding
- Handle billing processes by verifying insurance coverage, submitting claims via dental billing software like Eaglesoft, and following up on outstanding payments
- Educate patients on treatment plans, post-operative care, and dental terminology to promote oral health awareness
- Maintain knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, and dental procedures across specialties including pediatrics, prosthodontics, endodontics, and general dentistry
Skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times
- Experience with dental imaging techniques including X-ray procedures and 3D scanning technology
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques necessary for safe clinical environments
- Ability to perform vital signs assessments and monitor patient comfort during procedures
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices to effectively assist young patients in a friendly manner
- Excellent communication skills as a dental receptionist to coordinate appointments and facilitate patient flow efficiently
