Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Dental Assistant/Receptionist to join our vibrant dental team. This role combines front desk administrative support with clinical assistance, ensuring a seamless patient experience from appointment scheduling to treatment. You will play a vital role in managing patient interactions, maintaining accurate dental records, and supporting clinical operations with efficiency and professionalism.
Duties
- Greet patients warmly, verify insurance coverage, and perform insurance verification to ensure smooth check-in processes
- Schedule appointments accurately using dental practice management software Dentrix, coordinating with clinical staff for optimal workflow
- Manage multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette, addressing patient inquiries and redirecting calls as needed
- Assist the dental team during procedures by preparing instruments, taking x-rays, and maintaining sterilization protocols in compliance with OSHA standards
- Review and update patient records, ensuring documentation review for accuracy and completeness within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Meditech, Epic, or Athenahealth
- Handle medical billing and coding tasks including CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, and Medicare claims processing to facilitate accurate reimbursement
- Maintain organized dental files and medical records while adhering strictly to HIPAA regulations for health information management
- Support front desk operations by performing office management duties such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and managing appointment reminders
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a dental office or clinic setting with knowledge of dental terminology and medical administrative support
- Familiarity with dental practice management software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience with EMR systems like Epic or Meditech is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, medical billing procedures, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), and insurance verification processes
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively in bilingual environments preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and basic computer skills necessary for documentation review and office tasks
- Prior clinic experience involving medical records management, medical scheduling, and front desk responsibilities is highly valued
- Ability to handle multi-line phone systems efficiently while maintaining professionalism and courtesy at all times
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for accurate documentation review and filing of medical records
- Knowledge of dental terminology and familiarity with dental office equipment such as Dentrix software is a plus
