Dental Clinical Assistant

Duties:

• Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures
• Taking dental radiographs (x-rays)
• Asking about the patient's medical history and taking blood pressure and pulse
• Preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment
• Helping patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
• Providing patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling)
• Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling)
• Communicating with patients
• Organizing and stocking operatories, sterilization, the lab and the supply closet
• Helping to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties, including pediatric dentistry, periodontics and oral surgery
• Assist in basic supportive chairside procedures
• Chart existing restorations, clinically missing teeth, and appliances within the oral cavity
• Apply topical drugs as prescribed by the dentist
• Take and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, etc.)
• Expose radiographs upon completion of a Board approved radiation safety course
• Take impressions/digital scans for study models
• Cement temporary crowns or bridges
• Remove excess cement from restorations

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $32.00 per hour

Experience:

• Dental assisting: 2 years (Required)

License/Certification:

• degree/certificate from an ADA-accredited program (Required)
• X-Ray Certification in the state of South Carolina SC (Required)
