Dental Hygienist

Duties

  • Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup
  • Take and evaluate vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and respiration to monitor patient health status
  • Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure smooth workflow
  • Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical history and documenting findings accurately in electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix
  • Provide patient education on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions
  • Capture and interpret dental radiographs (medical imaging) while maintaining strict infection control protocols and aseptic techniques
  • Review medical records and documentation for accuracy, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and proper medical coding standards

Qualifications

  • Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice in a clinical setting
  • Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry environments, with familiarity in pediatric dentistry preferred
  • Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation review and patient record management
  • Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control procedures, and aseptic techniques
  • Excellent patient care skills with the ability to assess patient needs effectively and communicate clearly
  • Experience with dental assisting tasks including chairside assisting in pediatric dentistry settings is a plus
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and professionalism
