Responsibilities
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments to promote optimal oral health.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and treatment options to enhance their understanding and engagement.
- Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency and comfort.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (medical imaging) while adhering to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques.
- Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and review documentation for completeness and accuracy in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support infection control practices by following sterilization procedures, managing dental supplies, and ensuring a safe clinical environment.
Skills
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and general dentistry procedures.
- Experience with pediatric dentistry is a plus to effectively care for young patients.
- Skilled in chairside assisting, including handling dental instruments and supporting the dentist during procedures.
- Ability to accurately measure vital signs and perform basic medical assessments relevant to dental care.
- Knowledge of infection control standards, aseptic techniques, and sterilization processes to ensure patient safety.
