Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist/hygienist/therapist in all clinical procedures, ensuring that the correct equipment is available.
- Keep clinical areas, all equipment and instruments clean, tidy and sterile as appropriate
- Use all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendation and ensure they are maintained regularly and in good working order.
- Handle all substances in accordance with health and safety policies. Be familiar and comply with all health and safety rules and guidance, including COSHH, mercury handling, infection control, waste disposal, Personal Protective Equipment etc.
- Complete laboratory request forms, keep a record of work sent, received and fitted.
- Welcome patients and visitors to the practice and direct them to the appropriate area.
- Responsible for Decontamination and Sterilisation procedures on daily basis.
- Cover reception as and when required. Checking patients in for their appointments, collecting payments, re-booking and cancelling appointments for patients.
- Record arrivals of any visitors, engineers or competent individuals on the visitors log book.
- Report any faults or poorly functioning equipment to the Practice Manager so that action may be taken to repair any defects.
- Assist the practice manager with completing CQC documents, Audits, Risk Assessments and general management of the practice in the absence of the practice manager.
Skills/Qualifications
- Registration with the General Dental Council
- National Certificate in Dental Nursing or NVQ Level 3 Oral Healthcare or equivalent.
