Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and professionally, establishing a positive first impression.
- Schedule appointments accurately using dental practice management software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and handle insurance claims processing with systems like Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth.
- Collect payments, process patient billing, and manage medical collections with attention to detail.
- Maintain and update patient records in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as eClinicalWorks or Meditech, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Answer multi-line phone systems efficiently while providing excellent patient service and appointment coordination.
- Review documentation for accuracy, including medical history forms and treatment plans, ensuring proper coding with CPT, ICD-9/10 codes for billing purposes.
- Manage correspondence, file medical records securely, and support office management tasks to keep the clinic running smoothly.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Medical Receptionist or Dental Receptionist in a clinical setting with dental office experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and health information management systems.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar platforms; experience with Meditech or Epic is a plus.
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and typing skills (including 10 key typing).
- Ability to handle medical billing and collections efficiently while maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
- Exceptional customer service skills coupled with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities.
- Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to serve diverse patient populations effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with clerical experience in a healthcare environment; office management or administrative support background is advantageous.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail in documentation review and insurance verification processes.
