**THIS IS A 3RD SHIFT POSITION
(10:30PM - 7:00AM)**
Although a permanent shift will be assigned, voluntary and mandatory overtime will be required on an as-needed basis.. This position is responsible for monitoring Global Positioning System (GPS) and Curfew monitored offenders. These systems track location, movement, and curfews of approximately 3,500 parolees and probationers statewide. Technicians must respond to numerous messages for offender violations and equipment problems. Technicians must take statements via the telephone from parolees and probationers and give them specific instructions to troubleshoot equipment and distinguish "equipment malfunction" versus "offender violation" alarms. These positions also specialize in warrant entry for escapees and absconders in both the State Police LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network) and United States Department of Justice Systems. This position processes tips received from the M.D.O.C Website "Most Wanted" Section. On weekends and holidays, this position is responsible to assure offenders scheduled to discharge from parole are free of wants and warrants by thoroughly reviewing LEIN & NCIC records. Technicians are required to adapt to transitory/temporary equipment while maintaining expertise in primary equipment and software.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Education typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience

Departmental Technician 7

One year of experience performing experienced-level administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.

Departmental Technician 8

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.

OR

One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.

Departmental Technician E9

One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

OR

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

OR

Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.


Alternate Education and Experience

Departmental Technician 7

Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician 8

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician E9

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.


Additional Requirements and Information

This position is a pattern position and will only be filled at the 7 level if no previous Departmental Technician experience within the MDOC - Electronic Monitoring Center.


New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
