Desirable Qualifications
Civil or criminal litigation experience in a court of law within the prior six months. Ability to work under tight deadlines, public scrutiny, and pressure to produce high quality work in short time frames. A demonstrated ability and experience in developing litigation plans, and in efficiently managing large caseloads. Excellent research and writing skills (exhibited by recent drafting of motions, complaints, petitions for injunctive relief, dispositive motions, and/or appellate briefs), as well as skill in oral advocacy and negotiations (exhibited by recent appearances in trial and appellate courts, and participation in settlement conferences). Well-organized and detail-oriented, a positive attitude, be team players, excellent work ethic and strong skills in interpersonal communication and collaboration. Highly motivated to work in the area of consumer protection, public safety and health care law on behalf of the Attorney General and the State. A demonstrated ability and experience in exercising excellent judgment.
A health care law background and knowledge of the administrative adjudication process pursuant to the Administrative Procedure Act, Government Code section 11400 et. seq are highly desirable. Experience in medical malpractice litigation, health care fraud, and/or criminal law is highly desirable. Ability to demonstrate excellent judgment and tact when interacting with clients, the public, opposing counsel and judges; show strong initiative in improving the work of the office; have strong organizational skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; effective work habits under pressure and scrutiny; an ability to work effectively with all levels of Attorney General staff; and creativity and resourcefulness in solving problems. Knowledge of bargaining unit MOUs, civil service laws and rules, and disciplinary process are highly desirable. The ability to manage and resolve conflicts, and relate well with members of the Section, the public and representatives of administrative agencies. Demonstrated leadership ability.
