Deputy Court Clerk

About the Role

Join our team! The City of Kentwood is seeking a Deputy Court Clerk to support the Criminal Division of the 62B District Court. In this role, you’ll perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties that help ensure efficient court operations and high-quality service to the public.


You’ll work closely with court staff, law enforcement, attorneys, and the community to manage case information, process payments, and support daily court functions. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.


About the 62B District Court

The City of Kentwood is home to the 62-B District Court, which helps resolve disputes, promote rehabilitation and protect the community through its services. The court strives to earn the public’s trust and confidence by providing a fair and just forum for the resolution of civil and criminal disputes, providing services in a professional, timely and efficient manner with respect and courtesy, educating and providing services in an understandable and user-friendly fashion, being accountable for the resources invested in the court and recognizing the changing needs of the judicial system and the people it serves. The court has a civil division, criminal division, landlord/tenant division, probation department, small claims division and traffic division.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide customer service and respond to inquiries from the public, attorneys, and law enforcement
  • Prepare and manage court calendars, ensuring all materials and participants are ready for court proceedings
  • Process payments for fines, fees, and filings; balance and reconcile accounts
  • Prepare, review, and process court documents, reports, and correspondence
  • Maintain, organize, and update court records and files
  • Enter and retrieve data in court systems and ensure accuracy of records
  • Perform receptionist duties, including answering phones and assisting visitors
  • Support court proceedings, including court recording responsibilities as needed
  • Proofread documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as mail distribution and maintaining reference materials
  • Contribute to a positive team environment and provide professional service to all court users

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years of administrative support experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in a court setting or with legal processes preferred
  • Experience with warrant entry, modification, cancellation, and LEIN validation preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain LEIN and/or court recording certification if required
  • Strong computer skills, including data entry and use of office software
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, including working with diverse populations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Pay and Benefits

Hourly pay range: $20.73 - $27.78, dependent on qualifications and experience
