Deputy Structural Design Manager

Doha, Qatar

We are looking for an experienced and highly competent Deputy Structural Design Manager with 15–20 years of experience in structural engineering and design management. The successful candidate will support the Structural Design Manager in leading a team of engineers and designers, ensuring the delivery of safe, economical, and code-compliant designs on time and within budget. This role requires both strong technical expertise and leadership capabilities, with the ability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects and mentor mid-level and junior staff.

Key Responsibilities: Design & Technical Leadership

  • Oversee and review structural design calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications for accuracy and compliance with codes (IS, ACI, AISC, Eurocodes, etc.).
  • Lead the development of design concepts, preliminary and detailed designs for large-scale or technically complex structures (e.g., high-rise buildings, infrastructure, industrial facilities).
  • Perform and review advanced structural analysis using tools such as ETABS, STAAD Pro, SAFE, SAP2000, MIDAS, etc.
  • Ensure structural integrity, constructability, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability in designs.

Project & Team Management

  • Coordinate with architects, MEP, geotechnical, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and efficient design solutions.
  • Allocate design tasks within the structural team and monitor progress to meet project milestones.
  • Provide technical mentoring and supervision to junior and mid-level engineers and draftsmen.
  • Participate in design reviews, peer reviews, and quality control processes.
  • Support the Structural Design Manager in resource planning, budgeting, and team development.

Client & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Attend client meetings, design presentations, and project coordination workshops.
  • Interface with project managers, contractors, and consultants to resolve technical issues and provide design clarifications.
  • Assist in responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and supporting construction teams during execution.

Standards & Innovation

  • Contribute to the development and enforcement of internal design standards and best practices.
  • Drive innovation and value engineering initiatives to improve design efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Support digital transformation in design processes including BIM integration and parametric design tools.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Certifications: Chartered Engineer status or equivalent (e.g., MIE, MIStructE, PE) preferred.
  • Experience: 15–20 years in structural design, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proven experience in managing design teams and delivering complex multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant international codes and standards (IS, ACI, BS, Eurocodes, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in working on large-scale infrastructure, commercial, residential, or industrial projects (customize based on your sector).

Skills:

  • Expertise in structural analysis and modeling tools: ETABS, STAAD Pro, SAFE, SAP2000, Robot, Revit, AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of BIM workflows and design coordination using tools like Navisworks or Revit.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Exposure to EPC or Design & Build project environments.
  • Familiarity with sustainability frameworks and seismic/resilient design principles.
  • International project experience or working with global teams.
