Design and Estimation Manager

Location: Islamabad (Gulberg Greens)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design & Estimation Manager to lead our Fire Protection Systems division within the engineering consultancy department. This leadership role requires a dynamic individual with deep technical knowledge, project management acumen, and strong leadership to oversee design, development, compliance, and execution of fire protection systems for various sectors including industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in NFPA, local civil defense codes, and relevant fire safety standards with a proven track record in managing design teams, interfacing with clients, and delivering code-compliant fire protection solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management:

  • Lead the fire protection engineering team across design, technical coordination, and documentation processes.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance management to design engineers and draftsmen.
  • Ensure project delivery within scope, time, budget, and quality requirements.

Design & Technical Oversight:

  • Oversee the preparation and review of detailed engineering designs including hydraulic calculations, layout drawings, and system schematics for:
  • Fire sprinkler systems
  • Fire hydrant systems
  • Gas suppression systems (FM-200, NOVEC, Inergen, CO₂)
  • Foam systems
  • Fire alarm and detection systems
  • Validate design outputs for compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and insurance requirements.
  • Review and approve all design submissions, technical reports, and shop drawings before submission to clients or authorities.

Project Coordination & Client Engagement:

  • Participate in project kick-off, design coordination, and progress meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and authorities.
  • Liaise with Civil Defense and other relevant authorities for design approvals and NOCs.
  • Provide engineering support throughout project lifecycle — from pre-sales, bidding, and design development to commissioning and handover.

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Ensure all design documentation is prepared, submitted, and archived in accordance with ISO 9001, NFPA, and company quality procedures.
  • Develop and maintain standard templates, technical specifications, and design criteria manuals.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC and site teams to resolve technical issues.

Business Development & Proposals:

  • Support the sales and proposals team by reviewing and preparing design inputs, BOQs, and technical proposals.
  • Evaluate RFQs and tender specifications to assess scope and technical requirements.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Fire Protection, or Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree is a plus).
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in the design and engineering of fire protection systems, with at least 3 years in a managerial or lead role.
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of NFPA, IBC, IFC, FM Global, and local fire codes (e.g., Saudi Civil Defense, UAE Civil Defense).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (MEP), and fire protection design tools (e.g., Elite Fire, HydraCAD, Canute).
  • Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced consultancy environment.

Preferred Certifications:

  • CFPS (NFPA)
  • LEED GA / AP
  • NICET Certification (Level III/IV in Fire Protection)
  • PMP (Project Management Professional)

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based with regular site and client visits.
  • May require occasional travel within the region.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project priorities.
