Design Architect Manager – Technical Office

The Role
The Design Architect Manager – Technical Office is responsible for managing all architectural design-related activities at site, ensuring coordination between the Design Consultant, Engineering disciplines, and Construction teams. The role ensures that approved designs are technically compliant, constructible, cost-effective, and aligned with project specifications, authority regulations, and execution timelines. Key Responsibilities Design Management & Coordination • Act as the primary architectural interface between the site team and external Design Consultants. • Review architectural drawings, specifications, and design submissions for compliance, constructability, and coordination with structural, MEP, and civil works. • Manage design clarifications, RFIs, and technical queries related to architectural works. • Ensure timely issuance of IFC (Issued for Construction) drawings to site. Technical Office Functions • Lead the Architectural Technical Office team at site. • Review and validate shop drawings, material submittals, mock-ups, and samples in line with approved design and project standards. • Support value engineering proposals without compromising design intent, quality, or statutory requirements. • Maintain proper tracking and documentation of all architectural submissions and approvals. Authority & Compliance • Ensure architectural designs comply with local authority regulations, building codes, fire & life safety requirements, and project specifications. • Coordinate authority submissions, comments resolution, and approvals in collaboration with consultants. Site Support & Execution • Provide continuous technical support to the construction team during execution of architectural works. • Resolve site design issues, discrepancies, and clashes promptly to avoid delays. • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure works are executed as per approved drawings and quality standards. Planning, Cost & Interface Management • Coordinate with Planning, Contracts, and Commercial teams on design-related impacts on schedule and cost. • Assist in variation assessments and design-related claims support, when required. • Ensure alignment between architectural design intent and procurement strategy. Reporting & Leadership • Report design progress, risks, and constraints to the Project Manager and Head Office Design Team. • Mentor junior architects and technical office engineers at site.

Requirements
Qualifications & Experience • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture. • Minimum 12–18 years of experience in large-scale civil building projects (commercial, hospital, residential, mixed-use, or hospitality). • At least 5–7 years in a Design Manager / Senior Technical Office role with a main contractor. • Strong experience coordinating with international and local design consultants. • GCC experience preferred. Technical Skills • Strong knowledge of building construction methods and materials. • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit (preferred), BIM coordination, and MS Office. • Sound understanding of local authority approval processes and building regulations. • Ability to interpret contracts, specifications, and design standards. Behavioral & Leadership Competencies • Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills. • Excellent communication and technical reporting ability. • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail. • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple design interfaces. Reporting To • Project Manager / Project Director • Functional coordination with Head Office Design Department
