Design Automation Senior Engineer

Job Purpose:

To design, develop, and maintain intelligent automation systems that transform transformer electrical design calculations into fully automated mechanical designs and drawings.

The role sits at the intersection of Electrical Engineering and Software Development and is responsible for building and enhancing engineering tools, CAD automation plugins, and data architectures that improve design accuracy, reduce engineering cycle time, and ensure compliance with international standards.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Software Development & CAD Automation

  • Develop and maintain custom add-ins, macros, and plugins for SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Inventor using CAD APIs (C#, VB.NET, Python, C++).
  • Create fully automated workflows that generate 3D models and 2D drawings directly from electrical calculation parameters.
  • Integrate transformer electrical calculation tools with CAD systems to enable seamless data transfer between electrical and mechanical design.
  • Build rule-based design logic to automate component selection, geometry generation, and drawing annotation.
  • Maintain and optimize automation scripts for performance, reliability, and scalability.


2. PDM, PLM & Database Architecture

  • Manage and administer the Product Data Management (PDM) system (e.g., SolidWorks PDM Professional / Autodesk Vault).
  • Define and control engineering data structures, file naming conventions, and revision rules.
  • Design and maintain SQL databases containing engineering metadata and standardized transformer component libraries.
  • Ensure proper version control, secure access, and traceability of design files across the engineering organization.
  • Support PLM integration from concept design to end-of-life data archiving.


3. Transformer Lifecycle & Process Optimization

  • Monitor the full transformer Product Lifecycle (design, manufacturing, testing, delivery, service).
  • Conduct gap analysis on current engineering workflows to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and error sources.
  • Develop automation scripts and digital tools to eliminate manual work, reduce rework, and prevent design inconsistencies.
  • Analyze transformer failures, NCRs, and design deviations and update automation logic to prevent recurrence.
  • Translate lessons learned from manufacturing and testing into enhanced automation rules.


4. Electrical Engineering Integration

  • Apply deep knowledge of transformer design physics (core, windings, insulation, cooling, tank design) into software logic and automation rules.
  • Ensure automated designs respect insulation distances, thermal constraints, mechanical tolerances, and manufacturing limitations.
  • Ensure compliance of automated tools and outputs with international standards (IEC, IEEE) and internal design rules.
  • Support electrical and mechanical designers in validating and improving automated outputs.


5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Electrical Design, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Testing teams to align automation with real production needs.
  • Interface with IT and Digital teams for system integration and cybersecurity compliance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering digitization and smart factory development.


6. Governance, Documentation & Training

  • Document all automation logic, APIs, and database structures.
  • Maintain user guides and technical documentation for automated design tools.
  • Train engineers on using automated design systems and PDM workflows.
  • Ensure business continuity by maintaining clean, structured, and scalable cod.


Qualification & Education:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering.

• Years of Experience: 3–5 years of experience in transformer design, electrical design automation, or CAD development.


Technical competencies:

• Transformer design (core, winding, insulation, cooling systems)

• CAD APIs (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor)

• Programming (C#, VB.NET, Python, C++)

• SQL & database architecture
