Job Purpose
As a Design & Estimator Engineer, you will provide specialized knowledge and leadership in designing, estimating, and developing low-voltage panels (load centers) and ventilation systems (fans, duct fans, exhaust fans). You will ensure compliance with technical standards, optimize designs for performance and cost, and support cross-functional teams through the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Technical Review
- Participate in Design, Production, and Quality Committees.
- Review and approve material selections submitted to the Material Committee.
- Ensure that design deliverables (drawings, BOMs, schematics) meet the company’s input requirements and align with final output.
- Product Development
- Work on localization and development of new products (load centers, ventilation fans) in collaboration with suppliers.
- Identify and lead New Product Development (NPD), quality-improvement, and value-engineering projects.
- Conduct feasibility studies, perform risk assessments, and build business cases for proposed products.
- Cost Estimation & Documentation
- Estimate project and product costs (materials, manufacturing, labor).
- Prepare and maintain project charters, development plans, and timelines.
- Develop and release detailed technical models and drawings for in-house manufacturing and external procurement.
- Create, review, and approve BOMs; manage BOM release in Odoo ERP for production readiness.
- Project Execution & Coordination
- Lead project kick-off and release meetings with cross-functional teams (R&D, Production, Quality, Supply Chain).
- Ensure all documentation (drawings, BOMs) is ready for production and that design changes are controlled.
- Intellectual Property & Strategy
- Perform IP research (patents, prior art) related to panel designs and ventilation products.
- Propose and implement strategies to protect new design developments.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Mentor and train junior engineers / designers.
- Delegate tasks effectively and ensure fair workload distribution.
- Help build a collaborative, high-performing engineering team.
- Delivery & Reporting
- Execute development activities to meet scheduled milestones.
- Optimize use of internal resources to deliver on time and within budget.
- Provide regular progress reports, highlighting deviations and corrective actions.
- Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Troubleshoot design, manufacturing, or performance issues.
- Escalate complex technical challenges when needed.
- Propose and implement process improvements; seek automation where possible.
- Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with United’s policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Maintain design and documentation standards, including quality and safety requirements.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field.
- Experience: 3–5 years of relevant experience in:
- Low-voltage panel / distribution board design
- Ventilation or HVAC systems (fans, ductwork)
- Engineering estimation, costing, and BOM preparation
- Product development in a manufacturing environment

Software Skills & Hands-On Experience
To succeed in this role, the candidate should have hands-on experience with:
- AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical: for drawing layout of LV panels, single-line diagrams, and control schematics.
- EPLAN Electric P8: for creating detailed panel wiring diagrams, terminal plans, and generating BOMs.
- Revit MEP (or similar): for design and layout of ventilation systems, ducts, and fan assemblies (helpful if ventilation design is in-house).
- Excel (Advanced): for cost estimation, BOQ (bill of quantities), cost analysis, and financial modeling.
- Odoo ERP: for BOM release, material tracking, production readiness, and cost control.
- SolidWorks / 3D CAD (optional but preferred): for 3D modeling of panel enclosures or fan housings, if United’s R&D or product development team uses 3D CAD.
- Project management tools: such as MS Project or Jira / Asana (or similar) for planning and tracking development projects.
