Design Manager, Facility Engineering

Hall Group Design Engineering (HGD) is an engineering and architectural firm delivering integrated building design solutions throughout the Washington DC Metro region. We provide comprehensive planning, design, and engineering services for new construction and facility renovations, supporting commercial, retail, and institutional clients across a range of project types. HGDs multidisciplinary platform combines architectural design, engineering analysis, facility assessments, and construction coordination to deliver technically sound, code-compliant, and schedule-driven solutions. Licensed throughout the Washington DC Metro region, HGD continues to expand its capacity while maintaining the responsiveness and accountability of a focused, high-performance team.

HGD is seeking a strategic and detail-driven leader who lives in the Washington DC Metro area to join our team as a Design Manager, leading multidisciplinary projects and ensuring seamless coordination from concept through delivery.

Major Duties

The incumbent serves as a Design Manager under the Principal Engineer providing support for various design projects, to include residential and commercial facilities.

Responsibilities include:

Project Planning & Scope Management – 30%

  • Conduct site visits and site surveys
  • Work with Principal Engineer to determine requirements and prepare concept plans for each engineering discipline
  • Coordinate project design teams comprised of partnering firms and/or engineering consultants

Scheduling & Progress Management– 30%

  • Assign timelines to the design team and track design progress
  • Track overall project timeline and ensure strict adherence to project schedule
  • Mitigate/minimize design schedule and overall project schedule conflicts
  • Lead weekly project meetings with HGD Executive Team

Design Coordination & Team Management– 30%

  • Ensure design complies with HGD quality control checklists
  • Facilitate design team responses to construction RFI submittals
  • Facilitate design team responses to County Review comments
  • Coordinate project kickoff meetings with the design team and client meetings as needed

Client & Stakeholder Communication – 5%

  • Coordinate client correspondence and provide weekly status updates to the client

Permitting & Regulatory Coordination – 5%

  • Consolidate permitting plans and submit to County for review
  • Track and Consolidate responses to County Review comments

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of the architectural and engineering design process for vertical structures
  • Must have access to AutoCAD or AutoCAD compatible tools
  • Moderate to high experience with making interdependent strategic decisions
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to address complex issues
  • Fully accessible within work hours during project duration
  • Must live in the Washington DC Metro area
  • Able to work in a remote environment effectively
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Architect or Facility Engineering: 5 years (Required)
  • Project Management within the AEC industry: 3 years (Required)
  • Construction: 1 year (Required)
  • Drafting with AutoCAD/Revit: 2 years (Required)

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Architecture or STEM related Degree (Required)

License/Certification:

  • Preferred EIT, AIA, PE, or PMP Certification

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour
