Position Summary
The Designer for the Missy Private Label division is responsible for developing innovative, trend-right apparel designs that align with brand standards, consumer profiles and seasonal strategies for key mass retail partners, including Target, Kohl’s and Walmart. This role supports Mad Engine’s Global US Wholesale business by creating commercially compelling product assortments that drive sales, meet margin goals and strengthen long-term retail partnerships. The ideal candidate has elevated apparel design skills and a strong ability to translate high-end concepts into cost-effective, executable mass-market product – balancing creativity, pricing targets and speed-to-market demands.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development

Create original apparel designs tailored specifically to the Missy customer, considering fit, fabric, silhouette and each retailer’s merchandising direction.

Develop seasonal collections in alignment with internal briefs, trend direction, assortment strategies and retailer category needs.

Interpret trend, color, fabric and silhouette direction to build commercial, brand-right product that meets margin, costing, and production parameters.

Prepare detailed CADs, accurate tech packs and presentations for internal reviews and retailer submissions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with Sales, Merchandising, Product Development, Technical Design and Production teams to ensure design feasibility, costing alignment and timely execution.

Participate in fittings, line reviews, buyer meetings and design presentations, as needed.

Communicate with internal teams regarding revisions, approvals and handoff requirements.
Market & Trend Research

Conduct ongoing competitive analysis across major mass retailers, including category, pricing, fabrication and silhouette trends.

Stay current on emerging fashion, fabric and silhouette direction relevant to the Missy private-label consumer.

Recommend new product opportunities, fabric developments or category expansions that support account growth.
Execution & Workflow Management

Manage design calendars and critical deadlines, ensuring all seasonal deliverables are completed accurately and on time.

Maintain organized digital files, line sheets, sketches, fabric boards and documentation for all programs and collections.

Support Product Development and Technical Design by providing updated sketches, tech packs and other design assets needed for proto, fit and pre-production stages.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field preferred.

3–5 years of apparel design experience within private label, vendor-side or mass retail environments.

Strong understanding of the Missy customer, mass-retail pricing structure, fabrication and quality expectations across retailers such as Walmart, Target and Kohl’s.

High proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Miro and PLM.

Excellent eye for silhouette, proportion, fit, fabric and color.

Strong communication, presentation and cross-functional partnership skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities, tight timelines and multiple concurrent projects.
