About Etijah

Youth and Development Consultancy Institute – Etijah is a non-profit organization specializing in developing, improving, and disseminating development methodologies in youth and community development.

Based in Cairo, Etijah’s primary concern is to create and tailor up-to-date and high-quality development methodologies, research tools, applicable practices of youth development, and training delivery models, to be able to qualify youth by providing them with the skills, know-how, and aptitudes, as well as contribute to building the capacity of governmental and non-governmental youth-serving organizations. Our role is to provide youth with direct access to unconditional participation by providing practical tools and models for developing community-wide initiatives.

Project Background

Sustain it project is implemented by Etijah in partnership with GIZ to strengthen the capacities of 11 NGOs in Assiut and Kafr El Sheikh to effectively contribute to climate change mitigation by implementing inclusive, community-led solid waste and circular economy initiatives. Strategic planning is a key capacity area needed to help these NGOs clarify their vision, define priorities, and translate project based experience into sustainable, long term organizational directions.

To support this, Etijah seeks a Training Consultant to design and deliver a practical 3 day training on Designing Strategic Planning for a selected group of NGO staff who are part of the Sustain It project.

Key Components Of The Consultancy

The Consultant will work closely with Etijah’s project and capacity building teams and will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Training design and preparation
  • Hold an initial coordination meeting with Etijah to clarify objectives, target group profiles, and context.
  • Review any relevant project and NGO documents shared by Etijah to tailor examples and exercises.
  • Develop a detailed 3 day training agenda and methodology (including plenary inputs, group work, case studies, and practical exercises).
  • Development of training materials
  • Prepare participant friendly training materials, which may include:
  • PowerPoint presentations.
  • Handouts and worksheets (e.g. templates for vision/mission, SWOT, strategic objectives, action planning).
  • Simple tools such as strategic planning checklists, “health checks”, and example cases from the NGO sector.
  • Share draft materials with Etijah for review and incorporate feedback before the training.
  • Delivery of the 3 day training
  • Facilitate a 3 day in person training on Designing Strategic Planning for approximately [30] participants from local NGOs (number to be confirmed with Etijah).
  • Ensure the training is participatory, practical, and adapted to different levels of prior knowledge.
  • Guide participants through step by step exercises so that each NGO begins to develop or refine its own strategic planning outline.
  • Post training support and reporting
  • Provide a short follow up assignment or template for participants to further develop their draft strategic outlines after the training.
  • Prepare a brief training report, including:
  • Summary of content covered.
  • Participant attendance list.
  • Key reflections and recommendations for follow up support.
  • Summary of pre/post assessment (if used) and main learning outcomes.

Required Qualifications And Expertise

  • University degree in management, organizational development, social sciences, or a related field; advanced degree is an asset.
  • At least 5–7 years of proven experience in strategic planning, organizational development, and training/facilitation with NGOs or civil society organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering strategic planning trainings or workshops (preferably 2–5 concrete examples).
  • Strong facilitation skills and ability to adapt content to diverse participant profiles.
  • Excellent training material development and report writing skills in English (Arabic proficiency is a strong asset).
  • Knowledge of the Egyptian civil society context and experience working with local NGOs is desirable.

Key Deliverables

The Consultant shall deliver:

  • Inception/training design note
  • Short inception note with final 3 day agenda, methodology, and list of proposed tools/exercises.
  • Training materials
  • PowerPoint presentations for all main sessions.
  • Handouts and worksheets (e.g. vision/mission exercise, SWOT/PESTLE templates, strategic goals and action plan templates, indicator examples).
  • A simple “Strategic Planning Toolkit” (compiled in one file) for participants’ later use.
  • Training delivery
  • Successful facilitation of the 3 day in person training for the agreed number of participants.
  • Training report
  • training report including: objectives, agenda, methods, participant profile, key results, feedback summary, and recommendations for follow up.
