At KARL STORZ, we’re dedicated to advancing medical technology and improving patient care. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (DevOps / CI-CD) to lead the design and implementation of our value delivery pipeline for embedded medical device software.
In this senior, hands-on leadership role, you’ll drive a data-driven, continuous improvement vision grounded in lean and agile principles. You’ll work closely with software development, IT, and global engineering teams to build a highly reliable, secure, and repeatable CI/CD pipeline with automated quality gates—ensuring the safe and efficient deployment of regulated medical device software.
Lead the design, implementation, and evolution of CI/CD infrastructure for embedded medical device software
Serve as a senior technical lead within an agile development team
Build and support highly reliable, repeatable build and deployment pipelines with automated quality gates
Identify infrastructure needs and partner with IT to plan for current and future capacity
Install, configure, and maintain DevOps tools, reusable components, simulators, and test interfaces
Develop and maintain a comprehensive configuration management solution
Design, integrate, and test software across the deployment pipeline
Produce live dashboards and in-depth performance metrics for executive leadership
Drive data-driven continuous improvement initiatives using pipeline and delivery metrics
Define and promote best practices for DevOps, CI/CD, and embedded software development
Mentor and provide technical direction to less-experienced engineers
Collaborate effectively with global development teams, including overseas partners
Create and maintain clear, accurate technical documentation
Senior-level software engineering experience with strong DevOps and CI/CD ownership
Proven experience leading DevOps transformations in complex environments
Extensive expertise with Linux platforms and tooling (gcc, gdb, make, shell scripting, etc.)
Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and maintaining:
Source control systems
Continuous integration tools
Configuration management systems
Strong experience with system and server administration, scripting, and automation
Experience with networking, security, databases, and cloud-based systems
Strong software design skills and ability to write clean, maintainable, well-documented code
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while leading by example
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams and geographies
Experience working in regulated industries (medical devices, aviation, financial services)
Knowledge of medical device quality systems and standards (FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, ISO 9001)
Experience with embedded software development in C/C++
Familiarity with cross-compilation, custom toolchains, and management of open-source (FOSS) components
Exposure to microprocessor and embedded systems innovations
Experience with cloud and hybrid (on-prem + cloud) environments
A strong continuous improvement mindset grounded in lean and agile principles
Ability to translate technical requirements into scalable, reliable DevOps solutions
Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach
Confidence making architectural and tooling decisions that impact delivery at scale
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to engineers, leadership, and stakeholders
Strong project planning and estimation skills to keep initiatives moving forward
Enthusiasm for building high-quality, safety-critical medical device software
