About The Tribune

The Salt Lake Tribune has been Utah’s independent voice since 1871. In 2019, we became the first legacy U.S. newspaper to transition to nonprofit status, helping to lead a national movement toward sustainable local journalism.

Now we are seeking to build upon our foundation by expanding statewide, launching new event series, and introducing a membership program.

The Role

The Development Coordinator will join a nine-person revenue team and support all aspects of nonprofit fundraising, including individual, corporate, and grant giving. This role will:

  • Help lead small-dollar donor engagement and stewardship
  • Support major gift cultivation in partnership with the Chief Development Officer
  • Support in grant writing and reporting in partnership with the CDO and development team
  • Manage select donor campaigns
  • Assist in data entry and reporting for all philanthropic giving at The Tribune
  • Help produce events to strengthen relationships with donors, prospects, and readers.

What You’ll Do

Donor Relations

  • Serve as the primary contact for small-dollar donors
  • Manage donor benefits
  • Develop and manage stewardship plans; respond to donor inquiries via email/phone
  • Assist with major donor communications

Campaigns & Communications

  • Project manage small-dollar campaigns (list creation, deadlines, print/mail coordination)
  • Assist in writing campaign communications

Database & Grants

  • Co-manage donation processing and database accuracy (Salesforce or comparable CRM)
  • Research grant opportunities, maintain grant calendar, and assist with grant writing
  • Support departmental project management, including weekly/monthly reporting

Events & Reporting

  • Help plan and execute development events (occasional nights/weekends required)

Requirements:

What We're Looking For

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Excel
  • Comfortable attending events and speaking with donors/prospects
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency with Salesforce (or comparable donor database)
  • Experience with campaign/project management
  • Marketing and presentation skills (deck creation, donor communications)
  • Experience with grants or nonprofit fundraising
