Position Summary:
The Development Coordinator is an important member of Dogwood’s Advancement team. Reporting to and working closely with the Development Director, you’ll support multi-channel fundraising activities such as digital and direct mail campaigns, special events, and grants. Key responsibilities include gift processing, donor recognition and communication, research, reporting, and event coordination. The role is ideal for a mission-driven professional looking to deepen experience in fundraising and nonprofit development with a small, collaborative team.


Location & Travel:
The coordinator must be based in the Asheville area. While our team is remote and widely disbursed, Asheville is Dogwood’s home. We provide a coworking membership for Asheville-based staff. Or, work can be done from home. The Development Coordinator is required to have a valid NC drivers license and reliable personal transportation in order to fulfill weekly, or more, logistical and operational tasks.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Management: Knowledge of Bonterra’s EveryAction donor management software (CRM), or similar, to maintain accurate donor records, track metrics, and generate reports
  • Strategy Development: Co-create and implement comprehensive, multi-channel fundraising campaigns to meet financial targets
  • Grant Applications: Research foundations and assist with funding requests and reports
  • Event Management: Assist in planning and execution of local, regional, and national fundraising events
  • Marketing & Communications: Collaborate with teams to create compelling promotional materials, direct mail, and email campaigns

Key Responsibility 1: Provide administrative and data entry support for fundraising efforts. Weekly Gift Entry and Reporting tasks:

  • Retrieve Dogwood’s mail from downtown PO Box
  • Enter gifts sent via check, cash, EFT, and 3rd party platforms into database
  • Acknowledge gifts (ex. sending thank you notes and/or premium gifts to donors)
  • Prepare and hand-deliver deposits to member of Finance and Operations team
  • Create weekly reports for Development Director and Dogwood’s bookkeeper
  • Track and report metrics

Key Responsibility 2: Research individuals and foundations

  • Conduct, record, and share regular research on individual donors and prospects.
  • Conduct, record, and share regular research on foundations.

Key Responsibility 3: Provide logistical assistance to support fundraising and donor appreciation events locally, regionally, and nationally.

  • As needed (approximately one event per month)
    • Provide logistical support for events such as panel discussions, house parties, film screenings, and curated walks/hikes
    • Work with internal teams and external vendors to design and/or print supporting materials, such as invitations, programs, take-aways, and follow-up


Competencies & Experience:

  • Proficiency with fundraising or advocacy CRM - preferable Bonterra’s EveryAction
  • Experience with providing high quality logistical support to donor appreciation or fundraising events
  • Demonstrated accuracy and prompt and clear communication
  • Desire to participate in all aspects of non-profit fundraising
  • Proficient written, verbal, and interpersonal skills for donor and team interaction
  • Ability to analyze donor data and campaign metrics to guide decisions
  • Technical: Google, Slack, Canva (or similar graphic design program), database systems
  • comfortable embedding and integrating their fundraising work with principles of equity and inclusion

Compensation and Benefits:

Third Step: Second-Round Interview

  • Who: Two members of the Dogwood Alliance team.
  • What: A more detailed interview focusing on your past work and experiences. They will ask behavioral questions about your career and personal experiences to understand how you handle situations.

Final Step: Technical Assessment and Panel Interview

  • Assessment: You'll do a task to show your skills in data management, writing, and detail orientation. You'll be paid for the time you spend on this task. This task will assess a candidate’s ability to be detail oriented and their data literacy skills.
  • Panel Interview: After looking at your work on the technical task, a group of Dogwood Alliance staff will interview you.
