Job Summary:
The Automotive Diagnostic Technician is responsible for identifying, diagnosing, and troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults in vehicles using advanced diagnostic tools and manufacturer-specific systems. The role requires strong technical expertise to ensure accurate fault detection, efficient repairs, and high levels of vehicle performance and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform advanced diagnostics on vehicle mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computerized systems.
Use diagnostic scanners, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and manufacturer-specific software to identify faults.
Analyze diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and determine root causes of vehicle issues.
Diagnose engine management, transmission, ABS, SRS (airbag), HVAC, steering, suspension, and body control systems.
Conduct vehicle inspections and road tests to verify customer complaints and repair effectiveness.
Interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and service bulletins.
Support technicians by providing technical guidance on complex repair issues.
Perform software updates, ECU programming, coding, and calibration when required.
Recommend repair procedures and parts requirements based on diagnostic findings.
Ensure repairs comply with manufacturer specifications and workshop quality standards.
Maintain accurate diagnostic reports, service records, and job documentation.
Stay updated on new vehicle technologies, hybrid systems, EV systems, and diagnostic procedures.
Adhere to workplace safety policies and environmental regulations.
Required Qualifications
Diploma, ITI, Technical Certificate, or Associate Degree in Automotive Technology, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in automotive diagnostics and repair.
Experience with OEM diagnostic equipment and advanced vehicle systems.
Strong understanding of automotive electronics, CAN Bus networks, and vehicle communication systems.
Valid driver's license (preferred or required depending on employer).
Technical Skills
Advanced fault-finding and root-cause analysis.
Vehicle electrical and electronic diagnostics.
Engine management and emission control systems.
ECU programming, coding, and software updates.
Reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and technical schematics.
Use of scan tools, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and diagnostic software.
Knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle systems (preferred).

Advanced Automotive Diagnostics Certification.
Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Certification.
ASE Certification (where applicable).
