Technical Responsibilities:
- Setting up and operating dialysis machines:This includes assembling the machine, connecting the patient to the dialysis circuit, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly.
- Monitoring patients during treatment:Dialysis technicians observe patients for any adverse reactions, changes in vital signs, and overall well-being during the dialysis session. They also monitor fluid removal rates and make adjustments as needed.
- Maintaining equipment:This involves performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring equipment is properly sterilized and maintained.
- Maintaining a clean and safe environment:Dialysis technicians ensure the dialysis unit is clean, organized, and adheres to strict infection control protocols.
- Troubleshooting:They are trained to identify and resolve minor technical issues with the dialysis machines and equipment.
- Preparing and sterilizing equipment and supplies:This includes ensuring that all necessary supplies are available and sterile for each patient.
Patient Care Responsibilities:
- Educating patients and families:They explain the dialysis process, answer patient questions, and provide guidance on post-treatment care and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Providing emotional support:Dialysis technicians often build relationships with patients and offer support and encouragement during the treatment process.
- Assisting with patient care:They may help patients with activities of daily living, personal care, and ensure their comfort and safety throughout the treatment.
- Responding to emergencies:They are trained to recognize and respond to medical emergencies that may arise during dialysis treatment.
- Documenting treatment details:They accurately record patient information, vital signs, and treatment outcomes in medical records.
- Collaborating with the healthcare team:Dialysis technicians work closely with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Assisting with patient scheduling and administrative tasks:They may help with scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, and other administrative duties.
