Diesel Mechanic – Construction
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel-powered construction machinery and vehicles. This includes ensuring equipment operates efficiently, minimizing downtime, and adhering to safety standards.
1. Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, generators, trucks, excavators, loaders, and other construction machinery.
- Perform preventive maintenance as per schedules (oil changes, filter replacements, engine tuning, etc.).
- Repair or replace faulty parts such as pumps, injectors, alternators, radiators, and transmissions.
- Ensure machinery is in optimal working condition for safe operation.
2. Troubleshooting
- Identify mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues in diesel-powered equipment.
- Perform on-site diagnostics and provide timely solutions to minimize project delays.
- Report major faults to the maintenance supervisor or project manager.
3. Record Keeping
- Maintain maintenance and repair logs for all machinery and vehicles.
- Track spare parts usage and report inventory requirements.
- Ensure service reports are submitted to management regularly.
4. Safety & Compliance
- Follow safety guidelines and wear appropriate PPE when working on machinery.
- Ensure all repairs comply with manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Report unsafe machinery or equipment to the site supervisor immediately.
5. Coordination
- Coordinate with site engineers, operators, and procurement teams for equipment needs.
- Assist in planning preventive maintenance schedules for site machinery.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Technical diploma or certificate in Diesel Mechanics, Automotive, or Heavy Equipment Maintenance.
- 2–5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably in construction or heavy equipment.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and heavy machinery systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical faults.
- Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Physically fit to handle heavy machinery parts and tools.
