About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Manager of Digital Content, English plays a vital executional role in elevating the visibility, accessibility, and reputation of SMU English. As the department works to expand its impact, strengthen community partnerships, and improve national rankings, this role ensures that English maintains a dynamic, consistent, student-centered digital presence across all platforms.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications, English, the Manager of Digital Content, English executes the department’s daily content operations, including social media management, short-form digital video creation, student and faculty interviews, graphic design, PR-style storytelling, media relations support, newsletter and website contributions/revisions. This position enables the department to produce high-quality, external-facing content at a scale that reflects the vibrancy and intellectual energy of SMU English.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage and oversee social media content and channels. Manage the day-to-day operation of the English Department’s social media channels, including planning, scheduling, publishing, and monitoring content. Provide event coverage on social platforms as necessary. Ensure content is aligned with departmental goals and SMU branding guidelines.

  • Create and publish digital content across platforms. - Create, write, design, and publish department-focused digital content across social media and other digital platforms, collaborating with the English Content Team as needed.

  • Write profiles, feature stories, event recaps, and newsletter content. - Write student, faculty, and alumni profiles, feature stories, event recaps, and contribute written content highlighting departmental initiatives, activities and achievements.

  • Capture and edit video and photo content Capture and edit phone-based video and photo content, including interviews, events, and campus storytelling moments, for use across platforms.

  • Design graphics and visual assets Design graphics and visual assets for social media, newsletters, events, and departmental initiatives while maintaining a consistent visual identity aligned with SMU branding guidelines. Collaborating with third party vendors as necessary.

  • Maintain and update website content Make website revisions and updates as requests are received and assist with digital asset management to ensure content remains current and accurate.

  • Coordinate student workers and complete special projects Lead student workers involved in content creation and complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.


Qualifications


Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree is required. A degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, Media or related field is preferred.

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in digital content creation, social media management, storytelling, PR writing, or multimedia roles is required. Experience in higher education, nonprofit settings, or student-facing environments is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate must have strong writing, interviewing and storytelling skills.

Candidate must possess the ability to connect authentically with students and build rapport for interviews and candid video content.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience creating digital and social media content.

Strong graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar tools are essential.

Candidate ability to understand website content management systems is a plus.

Candidate must have familiarity with social media trends, analytics, and platform best practices.
