Position Title: Digital Content Producer

Position Status: Full-time, non-exempt

Position Pay: $18.00- $20.00 Per/ Hr.

SUMMARY

Each Digital Content Producer for our family-owned company shares a common foundation, but this position is embedded within our sports department, SWX. You will play a key role in covering local and regional sports across digital platforms, helping bring games, athletes, and storylines to life for our audience. You will report directly to the Sports Director, who will oversee scheduling and evaluate your performance. Our operation is built on a story-centric workflow, prioritizing compelling sports storytelling across all platforms, including linear broadcasts, streaming, social media, and digital properties. This role is primarily digital, but there will be opportunities for limited on-air work, including contributing to sports coverage when needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Gather, create, and publish sports content accurately and quickly across digital platforms in support of our overall digital and SWX sports strategies. This includes writing web stories, managing website placement, and posting to social media.

• Write engaging headlines, conduct interviews with athletes and coaches, edit and publish highlight videos, and optimize content for SEO and shareability.

• Meet analytics-based goals while helping grow the SWX brand and convert digital users into television and streaming viewers.

• Continuously update sports stories, scores, and breaking developments on our website and streaming platforms.

• Work closely with the Sports Director, sports anchors, and reporters to identify and develop digital-first sports content that complements on-air coverage.

• Engage with the sports audience on social media, monitor trends, and surface user-generated content that enhances storytelling and community connection.

• Track local, regional, and national sports developments and communicate updates with the newsroom throughout the day.

• Assist the sports team by coordinating with schools, teams, leagues, and officials to confirm scores, schedules, and breaking developments.

• Review and edit copy for accuracy, grammar, and AP style, ensuring clean and professional presentation.

• Ensure all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity, accuracy, and production quality.

• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum one year of experience at a live commercial media outlet preferred, with a strong emphasis on sports coverage.

• Degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong editorial judgment with a passion for sports storytelling and a solid ethical foundation.

• Deep understanding of social media platforms, especially as they relate to sports coverage and audience engagement.

• Familiarity with AP style and Search Engine Optimization techniques.

• Availability to cover major sports events, breaking news, and games outside of assigned shifts.

• Strong writing and storytelling skills, particularly in a fast-paced sports environment.

• Ability to work under tight deadlines, including during live games or breaking sports news.

• Exemplary communication skills.

• Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy newsroom.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Office Tools: Understanding of Microsoft Outlook email and calendar management.

• Content Management Systems (CMS): Experience publishing sports content and managing digital platforms.

• Broadcast-Specific Software: Familiarity with newsroom systems such as ENPS or iNews.

• Research Tools: Ability to track stats, verify scores, and use online databases effectively.

• Live Streaming: Familiarity with streaming platforms and video tools for live sports coverage.

• Data Analytics (Optional): Understanding of tools like Google Analytics to evaluate audience engagement with sports content.

• Ability to adjust tone for breaking news, feature storytelling, and social engagement.

• Strong critical thinking to evaluate sources, stats, and breaking sports information.

• Ability to synthesize information quickly for clear, compelling reporting.

• Sound ethical judgment in sports coverage and reporting.

Physical Demands

• Frequent sitting for extended periods of eight (8) to ten (10) hours per day.

• Manual dexterity in operating equipment and computers.

• Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, especially around games and sporting events.

Work Environment

• Primarily indoors in a newsroom setting, with occasional work at live sporting events.

• Frequent exposure to medium or high noise levels.

• A fast-paced, deadline-driven sports and news environment.
